Web Forum: David Brown move

DAVID Brown Gears getting favourable treatment from Kirklees Council, according to Mirfield Conservative Clr Martyn Bolt:

putzfrau: “Another political football. There are plenty of brownfield sites within Kirklees – and the Huddersfield area – to accommodate industry without expansion into Green Belt land.

Where is the common sense of these councillors or is it just a political game to them and simply ignore the ratepayers and citizens?”

ANGRY FROM MELTHAM: “Move the work to China then? This is why the industry in this country is going down the pan: too much red tape. We need jobs! If Mirfield doesn’t want it, they could move to Meltham.”

SuspiciousMinds: “Well said. Why are people complaining about this? Kirklees should do all in its power to ensure this business stays local. We should all be cheering them for a change. More local jobs, a bigger, successful business operation. I say push it through quickly.”

attackdog: “Score nil. You have a serious lack of knowledge on this question. The ‘jobs’ you are talking about are not new jobs but simply a transfer of the Huddersfield workforce.

This will create huge problems as the infrastructure off the Leeds Road can’t cope as it is. We in Mirfield would be happy to support a programme that brought jobs to the people of Mirfield who are unemployed, but it’s not just stick up a factory and away we go.”

Ali: “Yet another business likely to take its bat and ball to Asia. If everyone that wants to start a business has to go through inquiry after inquiry every time they want to build somewhere I’m not surprised. It’s not just Kirklees, it’s everywhere.

Admittedly David Browns are closing down an existing building to move to Mirfield, but it’s in the middle of a residential area where people have complained about the noise even though it was there before they were.

Come on Kirklees – businesses can’t afford to go through these long-winded procedures every single time. Do something about it before it all goes.”

In Mirfield it just seems Kirklees think middle class, middle income, middle of Kirklees and a Tory area so we’ll throw everything at them!”

Seanster: “That is of course if the Secretary of State (Pickles) decides to call it in – of course he could decide not to, and the planning committee’s decision would stand.”
