IT’S easy to find to-do list apps on the web, and it’s easy to find apps for teams. But Trello offers a to-do list for teams, and does so in a particularly clever way.
Trello (www.trello.com) is a clever new web app for small teams trying to organise their work, or a wedding, or anything.
As a web app, it lives online. You don’t download anything to your computer. Everything happens inside your web browser.
Once you’ve signed up (which is free), you get access to an impressive list of features.
Inside Trello, you can create a series of custom lists that meet your needs. Let’s say you’re organising a school or church newsletter – your first list might be ‘Ideas’. Then you might have another for “Articles in progress” and another for ‘Finished articles’.
You can add as many users as you like, so that the whole team can log in from any computer and see all the lists.
Within a list, you can create and edit little cards. A card represents a task, or an idea, or an article, or whatever you need it to be. Each card can be assigned to a person, given a category, a due date, and so on.
Within a short time, you can build a smart online team management system, suitable for use at home, at school or in the office.
You might feel wary of trusting your organisation’s to-do list to a third party you’ve never heard of, but Trello is made by Fog Creek, a well-respected New York-based software company with an impressive track record. If you can afford to trust anyone, you can afford to trust them.
Trello is free, and the team at Fog Creek has made clear that it will stay that way. It’s possible that fees might be charged for additional features at a later date, but the basic service will remain free.
