HERE are the top five stories from our Examiner website from last week.
1. SICKENING images of an attack put a Marsden man behind bars.
And the thug who fractured a man’s skull after kicking him in the head and leaving him unconscious was jailed for three years.
Charlie Cooper-Jones, 20, of Station Road, Marsden, was caught on CCTV cameras at Leeds railway station.
The shocking images show Cooper-Jones attacking two men and kicking one of them in the head as he lay on the ground.
The victim, who also comes from Huddersfield, was rushed to hospital with a double fracture of the skull and internal bleeding.
2. A CHILD rapist is beginning a 10-year prison sentence after his young victim confronted him via harrowing text messages.
Milnsbridge man Nathan Whitehead, 28, began abusing the girl, who cannot be identified, when she was only 11.
And it was not until she turned 16 that she was able to confront him about his ‘sick’ crimes.
Prosecutor Richard Gioserano told Bradford Crown Court the complainant had managed to bring an end to the abuse early in 2010, but in June this year she received a text from Whitehead simply saying: ‘Hi, what are you up to?’
3. A THREE-STOREY college building collapse trapping 40 casualties was the scenario of one of the largest emergency training exercises ever conducted in the country.
Fire crews from Huddersfield – with no prior warning of the scenario – received a call to Kirklees College after reports of an explosion at 4pm on Monday.
4. A ‘MONSTROUS’ man who kidnapped, bound, and buried his fiancée alive in Huddersfield woodland is facing jail.
After eight hours and five minutes’ deliberation, a majority of 11 jurors found 26-year-old Marcin Kasprzak, of Penistone Road, Fenay Bridge, guilty of attempted murder.
Co-defendant Patryk Borys, 18, of Rashcliffe Hill Road, Lockwood, was cleared of attempted murder, but has already admitted his part in the kidnap of Michelina Lewandowska.
Neither Kasprzak nor Borys displayed any visible emotion when they heard their fate.
5. A BRAVE car dealer looked into the eyes of a shotgun-toting robber and dared him to shoot.
Shak Shah, 30, told how he challenged the two armed robbers at his Birkby Hall Road showroom.
The father-of-four was held up at gunpoint during a raid at his business, Shak’s Specialist Cars.
