THE makers of This Is My Jam wanted a way to share their favourite tunes with the rest of the world and were surprised to find that there wasn’t already an easy way to do it. So they built one.
London-based techies Matt, Hannah, Ralph and Andreas were thinking about the tunes you find playing on repeat in your head, the ones you just can’t stop singing along to. The ones worth shouting about.
Sure, you can mention them on Twitter. You could post a YouTube video on Facebook. But neither of those options was good enough.
So they built a new one. It’s called This Is My Jam (www.thisismyjam.com).
Right now the site is in beta and access is by invitation. But if you sign in using your Twitter or Facebook account, and someone you know at those places is already using TIMJ, you’ll get an invite automatically.
This Is My Jam lets you connect to your Twitter and Facebook friends, but gives all of you a new place to share those must-share songs.
You can upload a music file from your computer, or just tell the site which song you’re thinking about. It will look for playable copies of it online.
Once you’ve found some people to share with, your TIMJ page becomes an inbox of new sounds that your friends think are cool. Hit the play button and sit back while the songs play automatically one after another. It’s pretty cool.
It’s fair to say that many people have reached saturation point when it comes to social networks. It’s rare to find a new one that offers something worth signing up for. But if you love music and know other people who do too, TIMJ is certainly worth your time.
