New Huddersfield cemetery a step nearer as controversial plans near approval

anneb: “We need more cemeteries. If it’s a case of it would spoil the view, why not have it like the one in Birkby where no headstones are allowed to be erected.

“The only other way round this is everyone has to be cremated. As for poor drainage, that problem is rife at Lockwood which is almost at its capacity.

“People pay more to be buried and this service should be provided as long as people request it.”

Katie999: “I actually live near the location and despite ‘local opposition.’

“I don’t see anything wrong with it. I would prefer a cemetery as at least it gives you confidence the land in question won’t be included for development in the local framework and, hey, it’s not the dead you need to worry about – it’s the living.

“All in all a bad dose of Nimbys. I can’t wait until it’s ready. I’m going to go buy a plot!”

Matthew1: “Everything about this location is wrong and to say the entrance will be in a position to give maximum sight lines is absolute rubbish!

“The road curves all the way round the hill so there is no sight line to start with. There are hundreds of suitable locations around the area.

“The only trouble is the council doesn’t own them.

“Why not sell the land and use the proceeds to buy a suitable site?”

LewisD: “Quote: ‘Honley railway station is also a short distance away.’ Please define ‘short distance.’

“It’s actually over one mile away and the walk from the station would be up a very steep hill on a winding country road, mostly with no pavement.”

Matthew1: “They’d be better putting it at the farm in the middle of the M62. Better access, Better sight lines, better use of land full stop!”

IntSticks: “There are more people alive now than have ever lived in history. Of course they should all be buried. Forget about the living, we need to look after the dead. We need more crematoriums, not cemeteries.”

LewisD: “Just had a sudden flash of inspiration. Why not turn Grimscar valley into one big cemetery.

“That would certainly stop housing development and keep the local residents happy. Plus the land would be open for people to walk around in, complete with manicured lawns and pretty flower beds.”
