Golcar man has both legs amputated, applies for disability benefit and gets asked: ‘So, how far can you walk?’
Eli: “Firstly I would like to say how much I respect John and Jayne for keeping going under such circumstances. Then I would like to ask the people who fiddle the benefits ‘Do you feel guilty?’ It’s because people have pushed the boundaries again and again and fiddled the truth that DWP have had to ask such insensitive questions. It’s not funny or clever to get one over the authorities, innocent people suffer from so-called clever actions! As can be clearly seen from this story. I really hope that the benefit people see the truth here and award the highest rate with lots of back pay. They deserve it.”
Rutland: “I suppose the DWP have to double check as there are so many cheats out there trying to claim that the unfortunate, genuine people get caught up in it. Good luck with your claim John and all the best for the future.”
KazzyC: “People abuse the system as they work out, the more money they claim the better off they are, so why should they go out and work? Benefits are a right if you are entitled to them. Thanks to the Tories’ ‘so called meddling’, as has been said, many people that are capable of working are now in work as they should be. Yes many families are losing money, thanks to the way they are doing things, but how many of these families are actually working in order to support themselves? And the keyword to that is family, what about the rest of the country who do not have children and are struggling anyway? If one parent is on £40k plus a year, then why should you be entitled to claim child benefit anyway? Surely if you were earning so much, you could afford to pay your own way in the world? Especially if the other parent is working as well.”
Magdale: “The problem for these two is that they are not professional benefit claimers. They are hard working folks whose circumstances have changed and who are the intended beneficiaries of welfare. They need putting in touch with second and third generation scroungers to show them how to maximise what they can get.”
hardupandfedup: “I do not think the questions are stupid. The people asking do not know the full circumstances. We have soldiers with both legs amputated yet climbing Mount Everest and running in marathons. Obviously, this guy is much older and will have other complications. I’m sure they will get sorted.”
