THIS week is a historic one.

You may remember where you were when Kennedy was shot, when Armstrong put his boot on the moon or when you faced having to pay more for a warm pasty.

But surely all these epoch-defining events pale into insignificance with the news this week that Ceefax has gone off – in London.

I love the memory of Ceefax and for that matter even ITV’s Teletext (just don’t mention Channel 4’s Oracle).

I’m happy to reminisce about it, don’t get me wrong.

But I’m afraid I have to draw the line when the Daily Telegraph starts writing about a service that 99% of their readership haven’t accessed for lord knows how long because it’s gone off. In London.

Having looked it up on the internet (Ceefax 2.0) it appears you can still get said service in Tyne Tees and Northern Ireland.

Which means it’s been off here in the White Rose county for a while.

But the newshounds behind the Daily Telegraph’s extensive coverage never even mentioned it.

So I put to you the question, if a tree falls in the forest and the forest is outside of London, did it make a sound?
