IF TAKING more exercise is one of your planned New Year’s resolutions then why not consider a traditional dance form that’s often overlooked.

Morris dancing may not have quite the same cool factor as Zumba or Salsa but it is suitable for all ages and appeals to those with a keen sense of history.

The Slubbing Billys, a mixed group based in Slaithwaite, is holding an open evening on Tuesday, December 11, at 8.30pm in Slaithwaite Community Centre. Anyone with an interest in dancing – or playing music with the band – is welcome to go along and find out if Morris is for them.

These Northern Morris dancers wear clogs and perform traditional dances that originated in the Lancashire cotton mill areas and the western edges of Yorkshire.
