THERE is nothing more dangerous than suggesting that a list is definite and complete. Well, there is with our readers. Whoops! Earlier this week I presented what I said was a list of Huddersfield cinemas from 1956.

This was taken from an old Examiner cutting. As readers were quick to point out, there were omissions.

John Ormerod, of Almondbury, says among the absent were The Carlton at Birkby and The Regent on Bradford Road at Fartown Bar. He adds that the Cosy Nook was at Salendine Nook (big clue in the name) and not Milnsbridge.

“I have probably been to all these cinemas in the 1940s and 1950s, except the ones at Slaithwaite and Meltham,” he says.

Barrie Sheard, of Honley, adds: “What about The Valley Theatre at Holmfirth and The Honley Palladium?

“The last film I saw at The Palladium was Genevieve with Kenneth More. In the mid-50s the price was two and a penny in the good seats.” (Which is just over 10p in today’s money).

“On Coronation day, 1953, it was free and the queue stretched down past the Coach and Horses. I was in it.”
