HUGH Hefner, the founder of Playboy magazine, is 86.

He is also described as its chief creative officer, which stretches the imagination. I mean, I could do that.

“Which do you prefer, Mr Hefner? The blonde or the brunette?”

“Why not use both of them. One in April and the other in May.”

He met blonde Crystal Harris in 2008 when she was still at university and she became Miss December 2009. A year later she became engaged to Mr Hefner but got cold feet and ran away.

After all, he was then 84 and she a mere 24.

But now she has returned and the happy couple were married in a New Year’s Eve ceremony at the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles.

Why the change of heart? Well, she is now a mature 26, after all. What could be the appeal? True love? The thought of a long and happy marriage? His free TV licence, pension and winter fuel payment?

It begs the sort of question Mrs Merton once asked Debbie McGee: “So what first attracted you to short, balding millionaire Paul Daniels?”

I wish the couple every happiness, At least they will have plenty of time together as the Playboy empire is now run by Mr Hefner’s eldest daughter Christie. She is 61.
