Denis Kilcommons: Romance is a tricky business

A survey found that 73% of men would rather\nspend quality time alone with their loved one rather than with friends on their birthday.

Romance is a tricky business, it seems.

A survey from internet shopping site findmeagift.co.uk found 73% of men would rather spend quality time alone with their loved one rather than with friends on their birthday.

Women, on the other hand, are different: 51% would prefer to spend their birthday night eating, drinking and dancing with their mates.

The dangerous equation is next: only 19% of chaps said they would tell their friends about their romantic plans before the big day.

They could be in a for a big disappointment if they spring a last minute birthday surprise on their better half.

“As it’s your birthday, I’m going to cook a meal and open a bottle of wine. And I’ve got a special DVD to watch.’

“That’s great, love. Just as long as you won’t be lonely. I’m off to town with the girls. Don’t wait up. I could be late.”
