ERIC Martin from Golcar was convinced that one of the photographs on the cover of the Pink Floyd double album A Nice Pair had been taken in the Plaza Teen Club at Thornton Lodge when the band played there 40 years ago.

The first one was declared by people who know as not being taken in the club. So Eric tried another from the cover. As it was a double album there were four sides on the gatefold sleeve and each featured nine small pictures.

But sorry again. His second attempt, right, to claim fame for the one time popular rock venue also failed.

Dave “Ollie” Cranwell, one of the DJs on the night the Floyd were at Thornton Lodge, says: “Eric is a real trier but once again he isn't right.”

The cover was produced by Hipgnosis, says Dave, and a quick internet check says the pictures used had been previously considered but rejected as album cover designs.

“If Eric wants to check for himself, the premises are still in use,” says Dave. “The last time I was in there, the stage area was still being used. The place is now used by Eldons Electrical.”
