Contestants in the three-legged race at Scissett C of E School's summer fair in 1987 found it was harder than it looked.

The youngsters were among large crowds who enjoyed a fun-filled day, taking part in events based on medieval country fairs such as apple-bobbing and watching people suffer in the stocks.

The fair got off to a traditional start when a former headmaster, Brian Carter, toured the village as a town crier, Scissett Youth Band provided entertainment and youngsters gave a country dancing display. Firms and shops made donations.

Children from Class 5 raised money for the Examiner Bodyscanner Appeal for Huddersfield Royal Infirmary with several stalls, while the fair raised £800 to buy play equipment for the infants school.
