Fartown singer Shanta P launches debut EP at only 15 after wowing audiences around England

The Fartown vocalist and Rastrick High School student now has her sights set on releasing her first album

Shanta P celebrates the release of her first CD

She bowled over audiences at a London stadium and now teenage singing sensation Shanta P is to share her stunning voice across the world thanks to her first CD release.

The future is certainly looking bright for the Fartown teenager, who started her singing career when she was only four years old.

Now at the tender age of 15, she has launched her debut four-track EP which proves why she was chosen as a star performer at the inauguration of the Mayor on June 4.

On the CD, Shanta Pinnock, who goes to Rastrick High School, has breathed new energy into soul classic Missing You, and showcased three new original songs, Paradise, Dazzled and Don’t be Afraid, featuring a duet with fellow acclaimed Huddersfield musician Thabo.

Shanta, whose EP is called Introducing Shanta P, said: “I’m really overwhelmed because its something I’ve always wanted to do and it gives me a chance to let people hear my singing.”

She took two weeks to record the tracks, which were produced by local musician Richman Quarshie in his Huddersfield home.

Shanta said: “Working with him on writing the songs and with Thabo was a great experience and the positive feedback I got from them is fantastic.”

Now with fire in her belly, she has already begun recording her first full album.

She said: “I hope it will be recorded by the end of this year but hopefully by end of summer.

“It will include some songs from the E.P. but lots of other new tracks.”

As well as writing her own music she is now teaching at Reach Performing Arts but wants to keep her feet firmly on the ground.

Shanta said: “I’ve got a lot of big hopes for the next few years but I want to stay in school because education has to come first and it’s good to get a rounded experience.

“I would like to get another album out as soon as possible after the first because I want to include more material that I have created independently, which will help me develop.”

Praising Shanta, new Mayor of Kirklees, Clr Ken Smith, said: “This first CD is just an example of the fine voice this wonderful young girl offers us.

“Having heard her live performances, full of spirit and charm, I look forward to watching a great singing career develop”.

Introducing Shanta P is available at Vinyl Tap.
