MEDIA students Zara Ahmad and Kate Mikolajczak, from Huddersfield University are staging a charity vintage fashion show and fair on the campus this weekend.

The young women teamed up through a student ambassador scheme run by the Lymphoma Association, which works with young people to raise awareness of the cancer, and decided to organise a fundraising vintage fair.

“We are two final year students and in our final year we have to create a project,” explained Zara, who is studying public relations and media.

She registered with the Lymphoma Association and discovered that fellow student Kate, who is studying journalism, film and media, had done the same.

Their brief was to devise an awareness-raising event aimed at young women. They thought vintage fashion would be ideal.

“The event started out as a fair with a small fashion show and has ended up being a fashion show with a small fair,” said Kate.

It has been a steep learning curve for the students who have discovered that events management is fraught with problems.

The show is called Give a Little, Go Vintage and will feature outfits from around eight vintage outlets modelled by students from the university’s fashion department.

It will be on Saturday at 6pm in the Students Union building. Tickets are £1.50 and can be bought on the door.

The students have also set up a Facebook page, facebook.com/givealittlegovintage with information about lymphoma.
