EVERYONE has their favourite curry house. They’re like fish and chip shops, once you’ve found the one you like you tend to stick with it. If this is the case, what’s the point in reading this review, you probably won’t go there anyway!

I went somewhere else to provide this martyr like public service. Not because I expected the food to be better, but because I felt I should experiment. I didn’t end up too far from home, I only went up to Roberttown to the New Bismillah, but it certainly felt that little bit different.

In the spirit of variety I ordered a Mixed Karahi. They say you shouldn’t mix your drinks but does the same rule apply for meat? The Karahi was a conglomeration of “highly spiced” chicken, lamb, prawn and mushroom. It was excellent. It may have been the curry equivalent of a cocktail but there were no delusions of grandeur here, it was just good tasty curry, and lots of it.

The main was accompanied with a frankly whopping Nan bread, and I added Onion Pakoras and Mango Chutney as a side dish. It was all very good quality and superb value.

In the end it pays to try somewhere new, so tear yourself away from your usual haunt and experiment. I’ve coined a new phrase to illustrate my point – “variety is the spice of life”… I’ll show myself out.
