THE great British love of a lunchtime sarnie continues unabated. They’re quick, they’re easy and we’re buying increasing amounts of them.

There seems to be a never-ending surge of new sandwich shops, each offering more and more inventive concoctions.

It’s a trend which has even hit our markets. Once they had businesses with names like Dave’s Cafe, where a fry up was standard.

Now they’ve gone all modern on us.

Step forward Caffe Espresso@d’agostino’s, a resplendent looking place in the middle of Queensgate Market in Huddersfield.

It’s an enterprise which has a swish look about it, rather in the style of a trendy continental eaterie and offering the sort of food that goes with that ambience.

Ciabatta? Panini? They won’t bat an eyelid here. They’re a standard offering on the menu.

There’s plenty of room to sit down inside, but the takeaway option is there too.

I headed back to the office clutching a cheese and ham ciabatta with mustard mayo, an oat flapjack and a coffee.

My sandwich had plenty of solid quality fillings, combining them in a successful way, and was highly commendable. Washed down with a nice coffee and a tasty flapjack, it was a perfectly acceptable lunch.

Value for money? For what I got, £3.84 wasn’t bad.

Service? The staff were lovely and did the place proud. Presentation? The place itself is spotless and the food well laid out in front of you.

I would say it’s very good. I certainly have no complaints with it.
