The 12-foot wall-hanging is based on the town of Huddersfield and features the railway station, Castle Hill, football ground and houses and roads. It has been made by around 23 under fives who attend the nursery, and officer in charge Mr peter Potter, of the Broad Oak Childrens Nursery Association. Working on the computers was an added bonus for parents at Stile Common Junior School, Newsome. The maths workshop was organised by deputy headteacher David Meredith, and the idea was for parents and pupils to work together. It raised £60 for Meltham Helping Hands, which provides aids for the disabled, and £30 for the British Red Cross Gulf appeal. 8th March 1991.9 of 30Staff at Batleys Cash And Carry held a series of zany fudraising events to help improve life for British soldiers stationed in the Gulf. The events raised £600 - topped up to £1,000 by companies which supply the Leeds Road firm - and the money has been spent on everything from socks to soft drinks. Grocery manager Robin Smith and graphic artist David Rose stripped down to their shorts in a launderette to raise cash, check-out caller Robert Lumb endured a sponsored head shave, Gurvidner Singh underwent a sponsored beard grow and office staff Pat Barstow, Heidi Bowker, Lisa Fryer and Linda Tetlow, fined anyone who came in without taking their trousers off. If the trousers came down, the girls paid out. The Guides gave two performances at Southgate Theatre, Honley, and the proceeds were £250 - which will be shared between Guide funds and charities chosen by the youngsters. Rose Holden, Edward Bamforth and Patricia Clifton jump to it in rehearsal for the Pierrot Players' production of the situation comedy, Out Of The Crocodile, which opens for a four-night run at Shelley Village Hall on Wednesday, April 10. Directed by Jackie Mallinson, the play reveals the neat trick of how to arrange 'home and away' city and seaside accommodation without it costing a penny. Hairdresser Joanne England (left) gave a close shave to boyfriend Chris Cavell (centre), disc jokey at the Junction Inn, Marsh, and landlord Peter Henesey (right). Customer Paul Havell had his hair, beard, moustache and eyebrows shaved off to boost the proceeds for Comic Relief. Their efforts raised nearly £400. 20th March 1991.14 of 30Musical minds - these five Moor End High School girls used their knowledge of music to take a trophy in the Mrs Sunderland Musical Competition. Lucy Swierczynski (left), Rebekah haigh, Rebecca Noble, Kate Burling and Rebecca Franklin made up the fiveÂman squad who competed in the Musical Top of the Form Contest, which is open to schools in the Huddersfield area. The girls won the For Apollo Shield. Goal shooter Karen Julian was in particularly fine form as Tech accounted for FMA A 15-7 in the semi-finals, while Lee Green overcame the challenge of Scorpians A 21Â18. The plate competition was won by Panthers B who played some lovely netball during the play-offs to bring them victory over Scorpians B by 22Â12 in the final. Panthers defeated Teachers 22-17 in the semis, while Scorpians scraped into the final with a 13-12 win over FMA B. The children gave the former chairman of the school governors a special plate showing local collieries. He was also presented with a wall-hanging, on which the children had embroidered their names. Danielle Louise Williams has stepped her way to success in the dance world. Seven-year -old Danielle has been taking dancing lessons at the Strickland Taylor Dance School since she was three. Since then she has also been taking part in dance competitions. She has already won 61 trophies for her dancing and often competes against children years older than herself.
