1 Pride in our ponds – the water is warming up after the cold winter and it is a good time to plant new aquatic plants and to thin out overgrown ones.

Add new oxygenating plants and daphnea to help control algae and place a net bag of barley straw in the pond to help reduce the excess nitrates and phosphates being released by rotting vegetation in the bottom of the pond. Check the edges of the pond to ensure that animals and birds can get in and out easily for drinking and bathing. Be careful not to buy any non-native invasive aquatic species such as New Zealand Pigmy Weed, Floating Pennywort, Water Fern and Creeping Water Primrose.
