` The Friends of Beaumont Park (www.fobp.co.uk ) have been working on the ponds in Beaumont Park which are suffering from the age old problem of blanket weed. To help check this invasive alga, the friends are asking people to supply them with pond snails and ramshorn snails that act like vacuum cleaners, hovering up the algae as it forms on the sides of the ponds and on stones. ` This year’s South Crosland and Netherton Gardeners’ Association 69th annual Flower and Vegetable Show is at Netherton Methodist Church on Saturday, August 21 with the show open for inspection at 3.45pm. For a schedule, with nearly 80 classes, write to Michelle Heeley at 4 Marten Grove, Netherton, Huddersfield. Tea and home-made cakes are served from 2.30 pm. Entry is by schedule or 50p at the door.
