` Vegetables – keep a watchful eye open on warm days for Cabbage White butterflies, black bean aphids and other spring invaders – fleece works wonders.

Continue to sow carrots, parsnips, beetroot and peas and sow salad crops such as rocket, land cress, lettuce and radish in warmer soils. Plant out early potatoes in open ground over the next few weeks and plant into containers as well.

` Fruit – repot blueberries into larger containers with ericaceous compost and mulch soft fruit canes and bushes with well-rotted animal manure to preserve moisture.
