VEGETABLES – add some new herbs to your vegetable garden now.
Look out for chives for your summer salads or garlic chives for that extra bite.
Parsley is a versatile herb but may need a little bottom heat to get it to germinate well.
Coriander is a wonderful herb for curries – sow seeds now in open soil.
Sow some winter cabbages now for planting out in early June – interplant these young plants with catch crops of salad leaves.
Sow turnips and Swedes now for good autumn and winter veg.
FRUIT – look out for one or two of the unusual fruits and nuts to add to your fruit garden over the summer months.
Cobnuts and filberts can be planted out at any time in a larger garden. Add an extra late summer Raspberry to your collection or a Tayberry – the fruits freeze well.
If you have a spare wall or fence that faces West or South West, why not add one or two apples to it, trained as cordons – they take up little room, look nice and are productive as well.
