BOXING Day is massive in the racing calendar.
And no race grabs the imagination more than the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park.
Kauto Star and Desert Orchid have dominated in the past, and I’m looking for Long Run to pay for my Christmas this year.
I’m a big Long Run fan and I think we will see a different type of race from him this time.
He is up against second-season novices for the most part and, while they are good horses, Long Run will be ridden more prominently and score on the back of that.
Since he won the Cheltenham Gold Cup he seems to have been ridden as though he was some kind of wonder horse with a brilliant turn of pace.
I think they have realised Long Run is more of an out-and-out stayer and will therefore ride him up near the front this time.
Some punters think his jockey, the amateur Sam Whaley-Cohen, is a weak link and therefore Long Run is vulnerable, but at least you get a better price because of that.
Cue Card is probably his best challenger, but I’m taking Long Run to win.
