Easily beating a four-minute mile, Rob O'Hara, of Longwood Harriers, ran 3min 33.6sec to win the Maniac Mile at Meltham in June 1988.
He had finished second in the earlier Harden Moss Fell Race to Michael Pearson, but clipped some 13sec from his previous best for the unconventional downhill dash, which has a 400ft drop between its start and finish.
