Gaynor Clegg, of Ravensthorpe, complained last year that Blackpool had no deckchairs.

After a summer holiday in the resort she said: “I couldn’t believe it – there were no deckchairs. Blackpool, with no chairs on the front! Crazy! I couldn’t go on the sands. If I’d sat down, I couldn’t have got up again.”

Her disappointment at the lack of the traditional deckchair made an amusing piece in this column.

Her friends read it and laughed. And remembered. For when her birthday came round, the Ravensthorpe Junior School dinner lady received this very special card from Brenda and Norman with the message: “Blackpool have bought these especially for you.”

Happy birthday, Gaynor
