The first in a series of African and Caribbean dance workshops was held at Deighton High School back in September 1986.

The lesson, which was repeated at Huddersfield Technical College's Springwood Annexe, was part of a free course running for 10 weeks.

Part of the history and background of the dance was covered, along with movements common to most African dance forms.
