These two “jailbirds” were to make a break for freedom and for charity later in September 1987.

They would join other teams taking part in a light-hearted break out from Lindholme Prison in Doncaster to raise money for the Spastics Society.

Andrew Hasler, 18 (right), and Simon Milling, 17, were leaders at Outlane Methodist Association of Youth Clubs.

The idea was for each team to get as far away as possible from the jail in 24 hours on the weekend of September 19-20, 1987. Each team was allowed to spend money only on food and not on travel. They were hopeful that sponsors would come forward as they had dressed for the occasion.
