Christmas celebrations came early in Huddersfield in December 1991 when children across the area took part in Nativity and festival plays.

Meanwhile, famous faces visited the town, with Hi-De-Hi star Sue Pollard taking tour of Queensgate Market, and a visit from novelist Stan Barstow to Old Bank First School in Mirfield.

An author's life for me... novelist Stan Barstow visited Old Bank First School, Mirfield, to talk about his work. The visit was organised by local children's writer Bill Forde. Also at the school were Mirfield Parish Council chairman Colin Fretwell and a magician. Mr Barstow is pictured reading Bill Forde's story Douglas the Dragon Ð dedicated to the school Ð and the pupils then put him in the hot seat for a question-and-answer session about writing. 10th December 1991.

And Greenhead College pupils got in the festive spirit by donating 14 bin bags of toys and £800 to the Examiner Christmas toy appeal.
