ALL these photographs were in the possession of a 90-year-old Dalton woman who died recently.

Nora Hendy (nee Stringer) was born in a Dalton farmhouse in 1922 and her grandfather had two jobs.

He was both a farmer and also landlord of The Grove Inn at Dalton.

Nora lived in the farmhouse all her life and the photographs came to light after she died in February and Examiner reader Ian Mitchell is now interested to find out more about them.

His father-in-law, Glyn Davies from Netherton, is a cousin of Nora’s.

Ian, also of Netherton, said: “I find local history fascinating and these are great photographs. The mill in Kirkheaton was demolished in recent times and was a sad loss.

“The two school photos probably have a connection but we are not sure what at this stage.

“The one in 1901 is very formal with a real Edwardian feel while in the other one taken in around 1909 the children are not as well dressed.

“What is also fascinating is that David’s farmland covered a large area of what is now Dalton and Rawthorpe, including the Netherhall Learning Campus.

“David was shown to be the pub landlord at the two censuses in 1901 and 1911.”

Nora married Walter Hendy in about 1950 and the couple had no children.
