A legend which says that the villages of Slaithwaite once tried to retrieve the moon’s reflection from the canal to parade it through the village was re-enacted during a procession of lanterns at the weekend.

A large lantern, representing the moon was hoisted from the canal, placed on a horse and cart and driven through the village.

The annual event, followed by a barn dance in the Civic Hall, was organised by Slaithwaite Community Association and a group called The satellites.

Pictured with their lantern are, from left, Fill Burton, Susan Shaw, Natalie O’Hara and Alice Shaw.
