BEFORE Joe Hart retires to his bedroom in tears under the weight of criticism, I suggest that he takes a quick look at YouTube.

Former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Corrigan has suggested that the current team’s title challenge might be still on track had Hart kept his sleeves rolled down and not let the ball slip during their 3-1 defeat at Southampton.

If the younger Joe would care to take in footage from City’s 5-1 home hammering by West Ham back in March 1970 he will also learn some other tips – like you must get your hands on the ball after committing yourself to coming out at the striker’s feet (a failure to do so can culminate in Jimmy Greaves scoring his second goal on Hammers debut) or you must never turn your back on your own clearance (a mistake which can result in Ronnie Boyce volleying the ball straight back into the net).

Both these lessons in how to avoid such hard knocks in the art of goalkeeping were provided by one Joe Corrigan – and if you watch the video evidence both these feats were achieved with his sleeves steadfastly rolled down!
