THIS is the moment the sun starts to emerge over Huddersfield.

It was captured by Mary Kenworthy from the Friends of Beaumont Park group and was taken from the park looking towards Castle Hill.

The park has some stunning views, especially close to its entrance on Beaumont Park Road.

In 1879 Mr H F Beaumont offered the area known as Dungeon Wood to the Corporation of Huddersfield to allow for the creation of the town’s first public park and recreation ground. Four years later, in October 1883, Beaumont Park was opened.

The park has undergone major restoration work in recent years and has activities all year round.

One of them is the Toddlers’ Playtime from 9.30am to 11.30am in the visitor centre in the park depot just inside the main gate off Beaumont Park Road. It meets every Thursday during term-time and is a drop-in for toddlers aged up to three and their parents or grandparents.
