We've all heard of the house that Jack built – but what about the one at Blackmoorfoot that Eddie built?

This week’s Our House in the small area known simply as Blackmoorfoot, was built in the 1960s by Eddie Ford in his spare time at evenings and weekends while he was working as a self-employed plumber, builder and electrician. He has lived in the house ever since, but now Eddie and his wife Ann are planning a move to a smaller property on the same side of town.

The five-bedroom detached dormer bungalow is very spacious and ideal for a family as Eddie and Ann prove: they had four children, three of which were triplets.

Ann said: “When the children were young it was ideal as it is such a big house. All their friends used to come and they loved the space. Eddie says he picked this plot because of its position and the view.’’

Their house is just one of numerous individual houses in the Blackmoorfoot area which enjoy panoramic views over the area.

To one side the view extends up to Pole Moor and Slaithwaite and to the other to Crosland Heath Golf Club at Crosland Hill. Straight in front, the view extends to Lindley and Salendine Nook.

“When we have visitors, the first thing they comment on is the view. It is stunning really, particularly in the evening when all the lights are on and on Bonfire Night. We don’t need to go to a firework display, we can see fireworks going off all across the area,’’ said Ann.

The dormer bungalow has a long block-paved drive, single garage and spacious garden. It sits back from the road and has parking for numerous cars.

Downstairs the property has a sizeable entrance hall with an open wooden staircase leading to the first- floor.

Off the hallway is a generous living room with double glazed picture window, which really shows off the view. French doors lead out onto a paved patio and rear garden.

A dining room sits on a raised platform and has Parquet flooring and room for a large dining table.

The breakfast kitchen leads through into a good sized utility room and there are also two large bedrooms and a big family bathroom on this level. The bathroom, like the shower room upstairs, has been upgraded more recently and has a modern contemporary feel with both a bath and a shower cubicle.

On the first-floor, there are three further bedrooms and a smaller room, which is currently set up as a study, along with the modern shower room. There is also a large landing which could house a study area, piano or sitting area etc.

In more recent times Eddie and Ann have reconfigured the kitchen area to make a larger useful utility area, which has access into the back garden.

Ann said: “It’s been a super family home but it’s just too big for us now. Ideally we need a small two-bedroom bungalow. For a new owner it could even be divided downstairs to create a granny annexe because of the bedrooms and bathroom on this level. It’s a very versatile home and ideal for growing children.’’

This is a very deceptive, versatile and spacious house which is ideal for a larger family. It is close to countryside walks by Blackmoorfoot Reservoir yet near to a bus route into Huddersfield. It’s well worth a look if you want a property with a stunning view and loads of space.

The property is being marketed by Holroyd & Co Solicitors and Estate Agents 01484 645464.
