If you want a quiet life and rural countryside right on the doorstep, then this week’s Our House may be an option you’ve never even considered.

Situated on the outskirts of Huddersfield is Hill Tree Park at Crosland Hill, a development of around 100 homes which has a charm all of its own. Because of its elevated position, the park homes enjoy Pennine views over Holme and Colne Valley but are still close to local amenities in nearby Crosland Moor.

Home owner Maurice Tetley has lived in his park home at Justin Way since 1997 and says he has loved every minute.

He said: “It’s like being on holiday all the time. It’s a lovely site, the people are friendly and the properties and gardens are all well kept. It’s a really lovely place to live with great walking and cycling right on the doorstep as well as Crosland Moor Airfield and Crosland Heath Golf Club.’’

Maurice, who is now planning a move to live in Dalton nearer to his daughter and grandchildren, says he will be very sad to leave.

“I lived here on the original farm which occupied this site before it was developed for park homes. When the site was first built, all the roads were named after the owner’s family which was a really nice touch,’’ he said. Street names include Justin, Andrew, Victoria and Lesley.

Today the site is a mixture of single and double width park homes which are occupied by over 50s, retired and elderly people. Because there is an age restriction, residents enjoy peaceful surroundings with people of a similar age and lifestyle.

Driving into Hill Tree Park, it is surprising how many homes are located on the site and how far it extends. From the main Blackmoorfoot Road, the site is deceptive and visitors are always surprised by the layout and how pleasant it really is.

Maurice’s park home has recently been refurbished and now offers two bedroom accommodation (one double and one box room, ideal for grandchildren) with a full sized bathroom with shower cubicle, along with a good sized open plan kitchen, dining and living area with fitted downlighters. The kitchen is particularly attractive and includes all full size mod cons including a double oven and integrated appliances. The property is also fully alarmed for ultimate security.Outside the property has a recently laid new Yorkshire stone patio which takes advantage of the summer sun and has gardens all around the plot.

Maurice said: “This home has offered me the best of both worlds, being quiet and peaceful on the edge of the countryside, while still within easy reach of buses into Huddersfield and local shops.’’

This park home is an ideal alternative for anyone looking to downsize. It is an ideal substitute for a more traditional bungalow but still offers a small garden and outside space. Park homes are only available for people over 50 and are also often referred to as `mobile homes’. They are significantly cheaper to run than traditional homes and can reduce heating bills as well as qualify for the lowest council tax band.

The property is being marketed by Boultons 01484 515029.
