IT was very much a day of fun and funds across Huddersfield.

Thousands of people entered in to the spirit of Sport Relief and organised a host of events and activities.

Many Huddersfield schools took part and uniforms were ditched for sports kit, fancy dress or casual wear.

It was all part of a huge national fundraising event which expected to raise many millions of pounds for charities and worthy causes at home and abroad.

TEACHERS at Salendine Nook High School were pelted with eggs for Sport Relief.

History teacher Nathan Kirby and English teacher Chris Crowther put on a brave face as their pupils lined up to throw eggs at them for the charity fundraiser.

The teachers, both heads of year at SNHS, volunteered as part of the school’s fundraising activities.

The day, organised by PE teacher Nicola Smith, also included a one mile run and a mass zumba, with the help of year 11 pupils Anna Lloyd, Clementine Crowther and Laura Turner. There was also bun sales, an egg and spoon race and fancy dress.

Money was still flooding in late yesterday but they had raised £1,036 by the end of the school day.

THE Sport Relief mile has been taking place at Royds Hall High School all week with 850 students completing the mile in lessons. There have been some fantastic times with students competing to be the fastest boy/girl in their year group. The students are well on their way to beat the previous best of £1,800. Before running the mile, students have watched a short clip showing what their efforts will support.

LINDLEY man and Huddersfield Town fan Adam Pope, who works for BBC Radio Leeds, completed a 127-mile voyage along the Leeds Liverpool Canal with his co-presenter Catherine Hannah in a giant white pedalo shaped like a swan.

The pair raised more than £35,000 by the time they docked in Leeds last night.

A GROUP of Huddersfield mums walked a mile for Sport Relief at Upper Denby. Their sponsored walk came after they had dropped off their children at Denby First School.

PUPILS at Rastrick High School indulged in some celeb-spotting during class yesterday.

The 118 men, Hulk Hogan and the Queen’s granddaughter and sportswoman Zara Tindall all made an appearance yesterday for Sport Relief – but they looked suspiciously like the school’s staff.

There was also a staff versus students tug-of-war, while pupils completed a mile’s run, row or cycle for Sport Relief.

Yesterday they raised £1,500 for the worthy cause.

And today (Saturday) there will be a Big Bake at the Rastrick Community Hub at the school’s technology centre from 11am until 1pm with bread baked by Rastrick students on sale with proceeds to the charity. It’s open to all to attend.

MORE than 400 Huddersfield Grammar School pupils donned fancy dress to put on their running shoes for Sport Relief.

Children aged three to 16 took part in a range of events including a three-legged race, a fancy dress walking mile and a competitive mile run to raise money for the cause.

MELTHAM Moor Primary School took part in a multi-sports challenge.

Children from each year group competed in a range of events including a mile run, dancing, target practice, and paralympic sport boccia.

CHILDREN and teachers from Linthwaite Ardron Church School came to class dressed as sports personalities.

They then joined parents and grandparents to run five times around Broad Oak Cricket Club to complete a Sport Relief mile.

The school raised £176 for the charity.
