FUNDRAISING for a memorial statue of Compo in Holmfirth continues this weekend.
Last of the Summer Wine actor Tom Owen, the son of Bill, who immortalised the character in the series, is aiming to raise more than £35,000.
The money will pay for the statue, which will go in King's Head Gardens.
Tom will be chatting to fans and signing autographs between noon and 1.15pm on Saturday, outside Sid's Cafe by the parish church.
He said: "We are some way from the target, but the reaction from everyone has been great. Many people have pledged money and supported the campaign."
Tom, who joined Summer Wine after his father's death in 1999, will be joined in his efforts by Holmfirth schoolboy Alexander Bray, who will be playing his cornet.
Alexander, 14, whose dad Andrew runs a greengrocery business has raised more than £1,500 for charity playing his cornet.
Also supporting the campaign will be an American fan of Last of the Summer Wine, Helen Jones, and Pat Carline, of the Last of the Summer Wine website.
