COUNCILLORS have met the Thandi brothers to discuss their controversial plan to rebuild the Castle Hill pub.

Kirklees Council’s leader and regeneration chief were among the politicians who met the businessmen at the Sikh Leisure Centre.

Mick and Barry Thandi bought the historic pub in 1998.

But the 200-year-old building was torn down in 2005 as the businessmen tried to replace the entire pub with something bigger.

MP BARRY SHEERMAN is celebrating after receiving a “grovelling” apology following a planning inspector’s remarks over his case against Tesco.

And the Huddersfield politician has vowed to use the information to call for a new inquiry into the building of the store in Southgate which has since been given the green light.

Mr Sheerman was furious after planning inspector Robert Mellor accused of him of launching into a “poorly briefed rant” when he gave evidence against the supermarket at a public inquiry last year.

SUPERMARKET chain Co-op has finally objected to Tesco’s plan to build a superstore in Holmfirth.

Co-op has said the Tesco store, planned for the former Midlothian Garage site, New Mill Road, would ‘seriously threaten’ Holmfirth’s shops.

Co-op – which has a supermarket on Market Street in Holmfirth – has raised a formal objection with Kirklees Council to Tesco’s proposal.
