A CAGE fighter from Denby Dale was today facing life in jail for two gangland murders.

Thomas Haigh was found guilty of the shotgun murders of two underworld enforcers linked to an IRA drugs gang.

And today the man who was described in court as “unskilled, under-educated and unsophisticated” will be sentenced for the murders of Brett Flournoy, 31, and David Griffiths, 35.

2) Police warning over ‘Black Mamba’ substance as Kirklees shool pupils fall ill

FOUR pupils at a Kirklees school were taken to hospital – after smoking a substance called Black Mamba.

All four have recovered but one had come close to losing consciousness.

Now police are urging others to steer clear of the substance, a so-called “legal high”.

3) Caroline Ashford accused of stealing £50k from employers Shaw and Lisle in court again

A WOMAN accused of stealing thousands of pounds worth of cash from her employers has appeared in court three months after the case against her was discharged.

Former Brighouse resident Caroline Ashford was before magistrates in Huddersfield yesterday facing 10 allegations of fraud worth £50,000.

She appeared in the Huddersfield court for the first time since the case against her was discharged last November.

4) Huddersfield's historic George Hotel has new owners

THE George Hotel, one of Huddersfield’s most prominent landmarks, has been sold to new owners.

Brook Hotels’ ownership of the historic hotel – the birthplace of Rugby League – has ended.

The hotel is currently in a period of transition, with Brook staff working alongside new owners Antler Hotels Ltd until the end of this month.

The company decided to sell the three-star George as part of its move upmarket into the four-star country hotel market.

5) Second cannabis factory found in Marsh

A CANNABIS factory was found in Marsh today.

Police raided a terrace house in Broomfield Road at 10am and found cannabis plants and growing equipment.
