This trolleybus was passing up Kirkgate heading for Westgate and ultimately bound for Outlane in 1965. Looking behind the bus can be seen Montague Burton's gents outfitters - one of three or four Burtons shops in Huddersfield town centre at the time. Next to it is the then newly-completed Norwich Union House on the site of the old YMCA headquarters

This end of Lindley looked very different before the roundabout was built at Bay Horse. The Number 71 trolleybus was turning into Acre Street bound for Lindley and next stop was just outside the Bay Horse pub.

David Smithies was aiming to take a photograph of a trolleybus at this spot but missed it and so took a photo of a new motor bus instead which was the shape of things to come even though it had been painted to resemble a trolleybus. At this point in November 1967 the overhead power lines were being taken down. This photograph was taken at Thornhill Road in Longwood nd on the left you can see Longwood Co-operative Society's Thornhill branch.

Huddersfield Post Office on Northumberland Street looks dark and foreboding, especially with the newly-opened YMCA and Ibbotson Flats on Southgate in the background. Although trolleybuses had travelled up Northumberland Street since 1938 they only ran down the street for just over two years from 1963 to 1965 when this photograph was taken

The number 33 trolleybus destined for Almondbury is seen turning out of St Peter's Street into Lord Street in September 1965. The bumpy stone-setted road surface was upgraded in October 1965

All lit up, this number 20 trolleybus is bound for Newsome South and is seen picking up two elderly ladies at the bottom of Chapel Hill before turning on to Colne Road. The tall chimneys mark out the mill district of Lockwood and the properties on the right were demolished in the 1970s to make way for the Lockwood Road widening scheme
-
This trolleybus on Byram Street in Huddersfield town centre in April 1965 is picking up pupils for the Roman Catholic schools at Bradley Bar. It is outside the original George Hotel building which stood on the corner of St Peter's Street and Byram Street.

No prizes for this one. It's the 71 bound for Lindley and about to set off from the stop on an eerily quiet Westagte in Huddersfield town centre in April 1965. The building next to the stop was Martins Bank which is now the Nawaab Indian restaurant.

The Lockwood trolleybus was on a rain-lashed New Street in Huddersfield town centre in September 1964. The road has been a pedestrian precinct for many years

The number 10 trolleybus from Lockwood is pictured at the top of a very different looking Chapel Hill heading into town and, ultimately, Brackenhall. The cranes in the background were working on Civic Centre Phase 1 when this photo was taken in November 1964
