A Christian concert staged by Scissett Music Centre raised £130 for a minibus appeal. The money came from a raffle at the Dewsbury Town Hall event and prizes were given by local businesses. It may not have got to number one in the charts for Christmas, but youngsters at Huddersfield's Elim Church were delighted with their first venture into the music business. The 25 members of the Laser Club, a group of nine to 13-year-olds meeting each Wednesday at the church, recently recorded a song called Jesus Light of the World

A Victorian toy shop formed part of Newsome High School's Santa's Grotto. The shop was made by art teacher David Hampson and Susan Kaye, of the library resources staff. It was visited by a number of local children and their parents. Each received a small gift and a personal letter from Father Christmas. Senior citizens from the local community also attended the evening and were served with mince pies and hot drinks

These youngsters from the Victoria Wade School of Dancing, Almondbury, bought £100 worth of toys for the Examiner Christmas Toy Appeal. Five-year-old Erica Booth, left, and Nicole Pearson are pictured with the toys and some of the other youngsters who helped to raise the money with a Christmas show at Huddersfield's Venn Street Arts Centre. Nearly 30 pupils of Moldgreen Junior Infants and Nursery School were busy with knitting needles to produce this blanket. The children, aged between five and seven, presented the blanket to the Huddersfield Oxfam shop to go to Mozambique.
