Percy the Police Car - Pc Alan Laurie shares his safety message with youngsters at Ashbrow Infants School. Percy and Pc Laurie visited their school to get across two very important messages - the Green Cross Code and the Stranger Danger rules.

These youngsters were among two classes of pupils from Berry Brow Infants' School who raised £34.27 for the Examiner Christmas Toy Appeal. Matthew Sykes, front, was pictured with the collecting jars they filled with money by holding a coffee afternoon for parents and staff and selling home-made biscuits. The appeal was organised in conjunction with the Huddersfield-based National Children's Centre, and raised money to buy toys for hundreds of local needy children.

Pupils at St Aidan's CE First School, Skelmanthorpe, in their nativity play - A Centurion in Bethlehem. The whole school took part in the play with older children taking the lead parts. It was produced by Mrs Win Outram with Mrs Margaret Firth providing the piano accompaniment.

These prizewinning fans of the Examiner's Stop Press column were heading for the first night of a pantomime. The girls were all winners in the Stop Press Cinderella Competition and were going to the opening show of the Huddersfield Light Opera's pantomime, running from January 8 to 18 at the Venn Street Arts Centre in Huddersfield. First Prize winners, who won family tickets to the show and a paintbox, were Claire Tinsley, 10, of Kirkburton, and Gemma Louise Buckley, eight, of Marsh. Second prizes of tickets went to Kristiane Haigh, nine, of Marsh, and Helen Curtis, four, of Linthwaite. Claire (left), Helen, Gemma, and Kristiane are pictured meeting cast members Richard Mcartney (1991 spelling) and Sylvia Collins.

Kirkburton Middle School pupils showed they were a dab hand at dance. About 150 13-year-olds saw a performance based on the history of dance and took part in workshops when the Dab Hand Dance company visited the school.

Hold still - Santa and his helpers get to grips with dragon, played by Paul Gabriel in Newsome Junior School's production of The Christmas Dragon. The play, produced by teacher Anne Norman, tells the story of a dragon who saves the day when Father Christmas's reindeer fall ill with flu. Here Zoe Campbell, left, as the vet, comes to the rescue with some emergency first aid. A cast of 11 and a 40-strong choir did three performances of the show for parents, local senior citizens and pupils of Berry Brow Infants School. Father Christmas was played by Marcus Kenchington, the musical director was Wendy Scholes and teacher Jean Farmer made all the costumes.

Away in a manger - The children of Flockton Playgroup took part in their first production of the Nativity last Sunday. Three-year-old Aaron Morgan narrated the play, which was written and produced by Elaine Topham. Fifteen children took part in the play, at Flockton Green WMC. Natasha Brook and Thomas Duke are pictured in the parts of Mary and Joseph. Parents, grandparents and friends were invited to attend and sherry and mince pies were served following the performance.

Abracadabra ... Zalzabar the Wizard came to life in Lepton County Junior school's Christmas production. The musical, performed by 10 and 11-year-olds at the school told the story of how Zalzabar landed on earth at the time of the birth of Jesus and how he saw the whole Christmas story. Younger children of the school, pictured with flags of different contries, performed in another musical, Follow Me, which told the story of the journeys of the wise men and shepherds to the stable where Jesus was born in Bethlehem. The musicals were produced by teacher Stuart Winn, headteacher Keith Revell and other class teachers at the school. The performances wee watched by parents, relatives and friends.

11-year-old Kate Daubney as Snow White is pictured with members of the chorus at Rosemeade School's annual pantomime, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The show was written and produced by Mrs Helen Hebblethwaite and Mrs Catherine Howson and 32 children took part in two performances last Friday. It was held in Almondbury Methodist Church Hall for parents and relatives.

Delivering cash to The Examiner Christmas Toy Appeal were these newspaper boys and girls who donated £24 from their wages to the Examiner Christmas Toy Appeal. Kirkheaton newsagentMr Harish Modha, right, doubled the amount given by 15 of his staff to make a total of £48 for the appeal, which aimed to provide toys for hundreds of local needy children.

Taste of the Tudors - Pupils at Helme CE School stepped back to the Tudor times as paart of a history project. All the children and staff dressed in Tudor costume and held a Tudor-styles banquet to learn what life was like at that time. Activities included music and dancing, weaving, cooking, embroidery, games and toys from the period. The banquet was served at lunchtime and included stew, chicken legs and bread and butter which the youngsters had made. Parents were invited to school to see the day's activities and the pupils staged a 'potted' version of the play Macbeth and performed musical items.

Gifts galore - boys from West End Junior Football Club, Salendine Nook, gave toys for Christmas to the children's ward at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. Sister Carol Whiteley (left), nursery nurse Karen Rigby and ward clerk Audrey Lane were pictured receiving them from Richard Lane, Craig Kearney, Lee Preece, Tony Wignall and Daniel Learoyd. The 105 club members raised £200 to buy presents by organising a lottery to win a football signed by Liverpool players. Mr Ricky Thwaites, of Longwood, started the club four months ago and has built it up from just a couple of boys.

Winning trio ... Rawthorpe Infants School pupils, from left, Roderick Dennis, Natalie Proctor and Lindsey Dowling are pictured with prizewinning safety paintings. Around 75 pupils at the school took part in the competition following a visit by Road Safety Officer Carloine Ainsworth of Kirklees Road Safety Unit, pictured second right. The children were asked to paint a picture on the unit's Be Safe Be Seen theme following a talk by Caroline. Prizewinners received a bundle of road safety goodies including pencils, rulers and other safety items.
