A MURDER trial jury visited Marsden – to see the spot where a young man was fatally stabbed.

Strict security surrounded the visit by the jurors and barristers from Leeds Crown Court yesterday.

They were in the village as part of the trial against two men accused of murdering Craig Hepburn.

They were taken by coach from Leeds Crown Court to see the key locations they have heard about during the two-and-a-half weeks of evidence so far during the trial.

The judge, Mrs Justice Lang, outlined details of the visit which was led by Det Sgt Jayne Taylor of West Yorkshire Police. The jury were told they could take maps of the village which have been referred to in the case.

Luke Elliott, 22, of Main Avenue, Cowlersley, and Anthony Driver, 36, of Grange Cottages, Marsden, are standing trial for the murder of Mr Hepburn and the attempted murder of his friend Conor Paton.

They deny all charges.

Mr Hepburn, from Paisley near Glasgow, had travelled with his family and friend Conor to Marsden on the afternoon of July 6 last year.

They had been drinking in the village and were returning back to Craig’s uncle’s house when the tragedy unfolded.

Mr Hepburn was stabbed 11 times and died in hospital following the frenzied attack near Old Mount Road, where it meets Manchester Road. His pal Conor was stabbed three times and made a full recovery.
