MIRFIELD: Drivers could be able to glimpse a historic monument. Mirfield Town Council has asked for funding to rebuild a Grade-II listed wall on Dunbottle Lane at a reduced height. The work would allow passing motorists to see Castle Hall Hill, a motte within the grounds of St Mary’s Church. The town council has asked the Heritage Lottery Fund for £40,000 to carry out the work, which also includes building a drystone wall with viewing areas around the scheduled monument. Paths around the site would also be improved and illustration boards installed.
