It's only a few weeks old but the century celebrations have started.

Huddersfield’s Upmarket Sunday event will return tomorrow with more than 100 stalls.

The new market on the Brook Street site began in March with just 35 stalls.

But more than 100 are expected tomorrow in the market’s sixth event, with traders from all across the region.

From the outset, the market was predominantly food-based, but as the months have passed the market has expanded to include art and crafts as well as antiques and vintage stalls.

Tomorrow there will be 40 food and drink stalls, including locally reared meats, hand-baked breads, cakes, pies, olives, oils, chocolates, confectionery as well as loose leaf teas, jams, chutneys and black pudding.

The market also boasts a wide range of hand-crafted products such as bespoke clothing, handmade silver jewellery and even pieces made from recycled skateboards.

For the home, shoppers can browse hand-painted furniture, an eclectic range of antiques, hand-made ceramics, mosaics and sculpture, as well as paintings, prints and customised pieces.

Fresh flowers, oils, candles and garden pieces can be found alongside pre-owned millinery, hand-knitted and crocheted clothing and accessories.

Kirklees Cabinet member Clr Peter McBride, said: “I have been visiting the Upmarket Sundays every month since March and I have seen the market grow and develop.

“For me, this wide range of produce under one roof is what markets should be about.

“Themed markets are great, but people want to see a whole range of products and Upmarket has something to interest everyone.”

Visitors to the market can find locally-brewed beers from The Nook Brewhouse, a locally-produced cider bar and a wine and spirit bar.

There will be locally-reared sausages served hot in baguettes, a hog roast and a whole host of meals from pasta to cooked breakfasts from the on-site cafes.

Live music from the Dana Ali Band will entertain shoppers.

Children will be able to enjoy free face painting and balloon modelling between 10.30am and 3.30pm and a cookery workshop making choux pastry swans between 11am and 2pm.

Clr McBride added: “I would really encourage people to come along and spend a few hours in Huddersfield this Sunday.

“We have the Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival in the square and Upmarket Sunday just below the square on Brook Street.”

The market opens at 10am and closes at 4pm.
