A 52-year-old is recovering in hospital after a shooting incident in Hade Edge last night.

Police say they received a phone call at tea-time from a member of the public following an incident in Holmfirth.

Three police cars and an ambulance were sent to the scene in Dunford Road near the cemetery and the area sealed off.

Detective Sergeant Paul Keitch of Huddersfield CID is investigating and said: “We are currently dealing with a firearms related incident which was reported at around 5.30pm this afternoon in the Hade Edge area of Holmfirth.

“A man who is believed to have been in possession of a shotgun, sustained injuries to his torso and has been transported to hospital for treatment.

“He is currently in a serious condition.

"Armed officers attended and secured the area.

"At no stage there was any wider risk to public safety and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances leading to the incident.

“Our enquiries are at a very early stage and are ongoing as we work to ascertain the full circumstances and nature of this incident.”
