PLANS for a new art centre for Holmfirth have been welcomed by a company on the site.

Developers want to take over the former Drill Hill which then became the Kastix Imports premises on Huddersfield Road, Thongsbridge and transform it into a base for artists and craft workers.

The centre would have 50 outlets selling arts, crafts and antiques as well as 10 studio spaces and a cafe.

Holmfirth Cars is also based at the site and will stay there as it continues to go from strength to strength. It was set up five years ago and now has a £2m turnover.

Owner Lee Snaith said: “I welcome anything which will increase the number of people visiting the Holmfirth area.” And he revealed that people who buy cars from him often use it as an excuse for a mini break.

“Some travel more than 60 miles to buy a car and so eat in local restaurants and cafes and some even stay over in bed and breakfasts,” he said.
