St Joseph's School’s test score hit as officials lose papers

Mr Parker fears the blunder may discourage parents from sending their children to his school. He said: “It’s bound to have some effect on how parents perceive us. Prospective parents browse the internet for school results and they will see figures for us which are lower than they should be.

“That could have a negative effect on admissions.”

Mr Parker has no faith in school league tables as a result of the blunder. He said: “In September a DCSF official told me that 6,000 papers had been lost so I wonder how many other schools have been affected.

“The whole thing is a shambles and, as a parent, I have no confidence in it.

“They don’t have school league tables in Scotland, Northern Ireland or Wales and it doesn’t seem to cause them a problem.”

Last night a DCSF official admitted that the results for St Joseph’s were wrong. Lee Davis said: “I can confirm that the papers have gone missing and as a result the schools figures have been calculated wrongly.

“The figures will be recalculated and published on our website.”

Mr Davis declined to comment on the accusation that 6,000 papers had been lost nationwide, saying this was a matter for the National Assessment Agency.
