BUYERS showed a taste for “fast food” to help generate new business worth £1.7m for Yorkshire food and drink firms.
Companies attending a Meet the Buyer event organised by the Regional Food Group for Yorkshire and Humber adopted a speed dating system for their talks with potential customers.
The annual event gives small and medium-sized producers just 15 minutes to impress buyers from supermarkets, high street stores and food service businesses in a face-to-face meeting before moving onto the next “date”.
Those taking part in the event at Wetherby racecourse included Spash Winery ay Holmfirth, Bradford-based Love Bites Food, Castleford cheesemonger Cryer and Stott and Ossett snack foods company Zeina Foods.
A spokesman for the Regional Food Group said: “It might be a whirlwind meeting, but it seems that food companies from Yorkshire and Humber are masters at a bit of frank, bottom-line talking.
“Figures now coming in from the 2007 Meet the Buyer event suggest that companies from supermarkets to hotels, and from farm shops to leisure organisations are queuing up to seal deals with Yorkshire producers.”
