MILLIONAIRE businessman Ahmed Ajaz revealed the secret of his success when he gave a lecture at Huddersfield University.

Entrepreneur Mr Ajaz founded internet service provider Freeserve after experiencing a “eureka moment” when buying a computer from PC World – and nobody could tell him how to get on to the internet.

He developed Freeserve and after much persuasion, rival retailer Dixons launched it in 1998. Barely a year after its launch, Dixons sold it to France Telecom’s Wanadoo for £1.5bn. By March, 2000, the business was worth £9bn.

Mr Ahmed remained as business development director at the company until April 2001, when he left to pursue other business interests. He is a board member of several companies as well as being a member of the university’s governing council.

The lecture was hosted by Huddersfield University and the Yorkshire and Humber region of the Chartered Management Institute.

Mr Ajaz shared his knowledge and experience with university staff and students – along with members of the general public.

Prof Bob Cryan, Vice Chancellor of the University, said: “It has been a pleasure to invite Mr Ahmed to the University and to share his unique insights into the entrepreneurial world.”
