Help with fighting depression

A GROUP helping people cope with depression is running training sessions for carers.

Batley Self-Help Depression Group is staging practical sessions over the coming months.

The sessions will help people working in the health sector to understand the types of depression, detect signs of it, find out about treatments and learn some simple coping techniques.

Another training course focuses on listening skills for people who may have to look after someone with depression.

A spokesman said: “Clinical depression is a very debilitating illness, misunderstood and often suffered in silence.

“It affects work, family and relationships. It is estimated that one in four people suffers depression at some stage.”

Details of the courses are available from Batley Self-Help Depression Group, Resource Centre, 90 Commercial Street, Batley WF17 5DS.
